Logging Final Service Hours
Per the agreement signed at the start of the season, gardeners agree to do 12 service hours per full size plot and 6 service hours per half or raised plots. Please log service hours HERE. All service hours must be logged no later than Oct 31st. In lieu of service hours completed, we appreciate your donation of $7.00 per hour not completed. Leadership will reach out after Oct 31st.
Closing up Shop for the Season
Plot clearing: Please clear your plot by Oct 31. If plots are not cleared, a $40 fee will be assessed per the contract all gardeners signed at the beginning of the season. It is a lot of work for volunteer leaders to clean out abandoned plots (11 plots were abandoned last season), so we very much appreciate your cooperation in helping till the glorious end. If you're coming back to the same plot, feel free to leave your greens growing till the first hard frost.
Dumpster Delivery: We are still ironing out delivery dates, but all non-organic material can go in the dumpster. Other organic material that can be mulched can go in a pile by the west side compost area.
Prepping Soil for next season: Some may be planting fall veggies like garlic in October, which is fine if you plan to return to that plot. To replenish your plot's nutrients, we encourage adding mulched leaves and a one-inch layer of compost. Due to the prevalence of grasshoppers we encourage all gardeners to turn their soil using a shovel or broadfork. If you'd like to plant a cover crop, we recommend planting clover and vetch in Fall, and turning it under after it grows in Spring.
What to Remove: Please remove all fencing, trellises, and metal u-pins and stakes and take them home for next season or they can go in the dumpster if they can't be reused. If they are in good condition and you don't plan to reuse, you can put them north of the Red Barn.
Produce Donation Report
Shelley Cooke with Veggie Van reports we have donated 1113.95 pounds of produce through September. last year we gave her 476 pounds total and we still have an October push! we are hoping to be north of 1500 pounds in total donations this season of organic Rose Roots Grown produce for community in need. Well done gardeners!
